Destiny, Hijab, and 73 Sects in Islam: UK Ahmadi Muslim Children Seek Guidance from His Holiness

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s Waqfe-Nau (religious dedication) scheme in the UK had the privilege of a virtual meeting with the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad on 05 February 2023.

The boys and girls, aged between nine and eleven, gathered in the Tahir Hall at the Baitul Futuh Mosque complex in Morden, Surrey. His Holiness presided over the meeting from the MTA Studios in Islamabad, Tilford.

Following the formal session, the children had the opportunity to ask a wide range of questions.

One girl, aged 10, expressed her anxiety over wearing the Hijab when she starts secondary school, fearing the reaction of her peers. She asked His Holiness’ advice.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad advised her:

“If Islam is a true religion, then Allah the Almighty has written in the Holy Qur’an that when girls reach the age of adolescence, they should observe the Hijab. So, if a person believes in the truth of Islam, they ought to act upon the commandments of Allah the Almighty. And when we follow His commandments, there is no need to fear anyone. Everything we do is for the pleasure of Allah the Almighty.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued:

“Indeed, if you wish to make Allah the Almighty happy, then there is no need to fear other people. Develop firm faith within yourself. Do not be shy and do not be fearful. We are truthful, our religion is true, and we are resolute in our faith.”

Another girl asked: “How were 73 groups of Muslims formed?”

In response, His Holiness explained that according to a prophecy by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), gradually, over time, Muslims would forget the true principles of Islam and cease to act upon the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. Every leader would have his own views and numerous sects would form. At such a time, the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) would come and unite all of the sects into one and they would be the true Muslims.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad stated:

“So, this is why there were 72 sects according to that prophecy and the 73rd one is the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community which is the right one and in line with the prophecy of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the promises of Allah the Almighty.”

One questioner asked that if Allah knows what will happen in the future, why does he put people into hardship?

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad replied:

“Allah the Almighty has knowledge of what will happen to you but He has given you a choice. Allah the Almighty does not deliberately put one into hardship.”

His Holiness went on to explain that Allah has distinguished between good and evil and knows whether one will do good deeds or evil deeds but the ultimate choice rests with the person and Allah doesn’t force anyone either way.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“Allah the Almighty has not created anyone with the purpose of doing bad deeds. Allah the Almighty does not put us into difficulty, rather, we inflict difficulties upon ourselves. Allah the Almighty enjoins us to do virtuous deeds so that we do not fall into difficulty.”

Upon being asked which is his ‘favourite’ country, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“All countries have good and pious Ahmadi Muslims and each country has its own unique features and beauty. Every nation and people have their own particular qualities, and, as I have said, sincere Ahmadis are living in all countries. And when Ahmadis are good then the country too becomes good! Therefore, for me, all countries are good.”

His Holiness continued:

“You (Ahmadi Muslims in the UK) are good, so are those in Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Canada, USA, New Zealand, Australia, and those in African countries. Ahmadi children and adults in Africa are pious and loyal who show great love. Just look at what happened in Burkina Faso recently – how extraordinary was the sacrifice of the Ahmadis who were martyred there for the sake of their faith. So, after that, Africans surely will be the dearest. Wherever there are sincere Ahmadi Muslims, those who offer sacrifices and are firm in faith, for me that country is good.”
