Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Addresses the Concluding Session of the National Ijtema of Majlis Ansarullah UK

“We need to create an environment in our homes that sets forth a pure example” – Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad

On 29 September 2024, the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad delivered a faith inspiring address to conclude the National Ijtema (Annual Gathering) of Majlis Ansarullah UK, the auxiliary organisation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for men aged 40 and above.

The 3-day event which was held at Old Park Farm in Kingsley was attended by more than 4000 men and served to inspire the attendees towards practicing their faith with devotion.

During his address, His Holiness detailed many Quranic injunctions that members of Majlis Ansarullah ought to abide by whilst also encouraging their family members and children to do so.

Beginning his address, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“We are living in a time where excesses are being normalised under the guise of ‘progress’ and ‘freedom’. In such an environment, Ansarullah’s responsibilities are increased significantly because Ansarullah is the organisation consisting of those members of the Community who have reached the age of maturity. Therefore, it is their duty to set a positive example for other Ahmadi Muslims.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad continued and stated:

“Seek to act according to the expectations of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) to whom we have pledged our allegiance. We need to create an environment in our homes that sets forth a pure and righteous example. Be an example and role model for your wives and children in such a manner that they look up to you. These examples must also be set for the wider communities and surroundings, showing the way towards goodness.”

His Holiness mentioned that the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) has given comprehensive guidance on all the various aspects of life. During his address, His Holiness elaborated upon some of them so that Ansar may act upon them in order to create a harmonious family life because “the home is the basic unit of society,” that impacts the peace of the community.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad outlined the importance of the responsibility of the members of Majlis Ansarulah and said:

“By the time you turn forty, you reach full maturity. It is also a time when some people do not control their emotions. They start feeling like they deserve more respect and honour. If there is ever a disagreement with their wives, it can lead to situations where husbands become harsh with them or even treat their wives’ close relationships unjustly. When a husband behaves in a way that his wife finds inappropriate, it has a negative impact. This leads to much tension and discomfort in the house, which ultimately impacts the children.”

Speaking of the way this impacts the children, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“It affects the children who are then left feeling agitated with the home environment. They try to find peace outside, and when they do so, they fall prey to whatever environment they are exposed to… So, it is a great responsibility upon the men to work on setting high moral examples in order to protect their families, their children, to establish a love for their faith in their future generation and for establishing a strong relationship with Allah the Almighty so that they may have peace and harmony in their homes.”

Speaking about the manner in which the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) had taught Ahmadi Muslims to treat their family members and children in light of the teachings of Islam, His Holiness said that the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) would always advise that children should be dealt with kindness and prayers, rather than adopting an attitude of scolding the children and being harsh against them.

Outlining the high moral examples that ought to be shown by Ahmadi Muslim men, His Holiness quoted the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) who said:

“Treat those kindly who are kind towards you and be forgiving to those who do wrong against you.”

His Holiness went on to quote the Promise Messiah (peace be upon him) on the subject of kindness towards one another and said:

“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has said that you ought to love one another and pray for each other even without the other’s knowledge. If an individual prays for someone without their knowledge, an angel says: ‘May it be so for you as well.’ What an outstanding thing indeed! If someone were to suggest that man’s prayers are not heard, at least they will agree that the prayers of an angel are accepted. I would like to advise you and say that there should be no discord amongst you.”

Elaborating upon the quote of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him), Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“It is the discord amongst one another that has led the Muslims towards their current state whereby they are being attacked by the enemy form all directions. Not only that, they seem to be winning against the Muslims. On the one hand, Allah the Almighty states that the believers are the ones who shall be victorious, but here we see the opposite. The reason is that the Muslims are disunited. Therefore, we must create that unity for which the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) was sent and we must also pass on this teaching to the rest of the society.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad stated:

“If we wish to be classed as the true members of the community of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him), then we must remove enmities from between us.”

One of the major causes that lead to sin, His Holiness said, is the pursuit of materialism and wealth.

Warning against this, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad quoted the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) and said:

“A person must not become so engrossed and charmed by the pursuit of wealth, riches, women and his progeny that he ends up erecting a barrier between himself and Allah. This is why wealth and one’s progeny are referred to as ‘a trial’ and they can be a means by which a person can lead himself to hell.”

His Holiness also outlined the importance of reciting the Holy Quran on a daily basis and referred to a quote of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) which states:

“I reflected over the word ‘Quran’ and then it became evident to me that this blessed word in itself contains a magnificent prophecy. The prophecy is that this book alone is the Quran, i.e. a book that is worthy of being recited, and there will be a time when this will be the case even more so than before. In the era when other books will also be recited alongside the Quran, the Quran alone shall be worthy of being recited so that the honour of Islam may be saved and falsehood may be uprooted.”

As His Holiness concluded his address, he mentioned that it is certainly a challenging task to ensure that one always follows the example of the Holy Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings be upon him) and so this task should not be taken lightly.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said:

“The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) has stated that being a Muslim is not a trivial matter. Until a person has firmly become established upon the practice of the Holy prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), one should not rest. This is extremely important to bear in mind. It should create a sense of worry within ourselves. If we mould our lives according to the various injunctions I have outlined today, then we can say that we have fulfilled the pledge of allegiance we have made to the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) and that we have fulfilled our obligations of being the ‘Helpers of Allah’. May Allah enable everyone to do so.”

Hazrat Mirza Masroor concluded his address and stated:

“May Allah enable us to reform ourselves and our family and children. May we create peace in our homes and in the wider society. May we deliver the message of the One God to the people of the world and may we raise aloft the flag of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and may we bring people under its shade. May we always remain to be such Ansar. Ameen.”
